The scholarship was created to help the state retain teachers in its public schools. For each year a student receives the scholarship, the student is required to teach in an Arkansas public school.
Placed at the entrance of Henderson’s original main building in 1890, the bell rang for class periods, meals, and other occasions. It also rang the night of the fire that destroyed the building in 1914.
The three buildings are all included in Henderson’s historic district, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places last fall. The beginning design phase of the projects is under way. A preliminary completion date has been set for June 30, 2025.
"Our programs are all online, so they are designed to meet the needs of working nurses, and Henderson offers so many resources to help them be successful in their graduate education experience."
The students are working on summer projects ranging from rocketry to an autonomous rover and ground-penetrating radar. The grants are provided by the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium.
"I am excited to be a part of a university committed to the success of our students and look forward to working with an alumni base that is poised and passionate to move our university forward."
