Jonathon Barranco

An educator with almost two decades of experience teaching in secondary and post-secondary settings, Dr. Jonathon Barranco currently serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Henderson State University in his native state of Arkansas. As a researcher, Dr. Barranco has presented papers and sessions for conferences and universities in the areas of poetic refraction, Baroque musical rhetoric, and navigating the challenges of a lasting career in music education. As a composer and collaborative poet, his original works have been performed by ensembles at Texas Tech University, Southern Arkansas University, Henderson State University, as well as in secondary settings.

Dr. Barranco’s principal conducting teachers include Dr. Alan Zabriskie and Dr. Graeme Langager, and his studies in composition include private work with Dr. Z. Randall Stroope. He has served as a clinician in Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas, and is a proud member of ACDA and NCCO. Dr. Barranco holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Texas Tech University and the Master of Music degree from the University of Arkansas.
