Middle childhood is an exciting growth period for children. They are just beginning to figure out who they are as individuals. If you want to be a part of this enlightening time, majoring in Middle Level Education is the right choice for you. This program is designed to prepare you to work with students in 4th-8th Grade. You can specialize in the subject(s) that interest you the most: Math, Science, Language Arts or Social Studies.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Henderson State University has an emphasis on STE[A]M, which integrates the arts into the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The goal of this initiative is to provide experiences for our teacher candidates in teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Full integration of these subject areas through project-based learning allows our teacher candidates to see and experience a model of education that is student-centered, creative, collaborative, critically minded and experiential.
