The Master of Science in Education (M.S.E.) School Counseling (60 semester hours) students with specialized knowledge and skills required for placement as counselors who can contribute effective and comprehensive counseling services in public or private elementary, middle, or secondary schools in the state of Arkansas. Our graduates:
- Have specialized knowledge and skills to facilitate positive change in school environments, students, self and others
- Have specialized knowledge and skills to facilitate positive change in students’ attitudes, behaviors, decision-making, communication and problem-solving skills
- Have specialized knowledge and skills to facilitate positive change in students’ school success skills, career awareness, and educational planning
- Have knowledge and respect for the influences of culture/ethnicity, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation and socioeconomic class in students' lives
- Are prepared to administer and assess comprehensive school guidance plans and serve as leadership within the school and community upon graduation
The M.S.E in School Counseling is a state-approved, NCATE (National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education), and CACREP (Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) accredited school counselor preparation program. Designed to equip students with the training and knowledge necessary to obtain school counseling licensure following successful completion of state-mandated exams and the Praxis Exams for Principles of Learning and Teaching and School Counselors. School Counseling students are also prepared become school and community leaders, continue their studies in doctoral programs, or pursue licensure as Licensed Professional Counselors in the state of Arkansas.
