Henderson State University has adopted ADH guidance that provides options for quarantine for students and employees. These options only apply to those who have remained WITHOUT SYMPTOMS during their quarantine period.
- Quarantine can end after Day 10 (i.e. return on Day 11) without testing and if no symptoms have occurred during the quarantine period.
- Quarantine can end after Day 7 (i.e. return on Day 8) if the individual tests negative (“send-off” PCR tests are preferred but antigen tests are acceptable) and if no symptoms occurred during the quarantine. The specimen should not be collected any sooner than 5 full days after exposure.
- Individuals should continue to monitor themselves for symptoms through Day 14.
- Should symptoms develop after 7 or 10 day release, the individual should immediately quarantine and get tested for COVID-19.
The standard 14 day quarantine is still considered the safest option and continues to be available. This option is mandatory for those who have been exposed and have had any symptoms.
HSU employees must complete the “COVID Request for Leave Form” when out for quarantine or isolation.
HSU employees that have received accommodations for the Spring 2021 semester are welcome to come back to campus now. Your accommodations are not being revoked but we do invite those that are ready to be back on campus. Please visit with your supervisor regarding your return. Faculty, staff, and students who have symptoms of COVID-19, have been in direct contact with someone who has COVID-19, or who have tested positive for COVID-19 should complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form.
- All employees who are sick should stay home.
- Henderson State University will follow instructions from the Arkansas Department of Health and the Governor’s Office directive to wear face coverings to minimize the potential of COVID-19 virus spread.
- Face coverings must be worn in classrooms, offices, public spaces and areas used by multiple people. Face coverings should fit snugly, completely cover the nose and mouth, and consist of at least two layers of cloth. The university will provide one face covering for students, faculty, and staff. Some additional face coverings will be available primarily for students.
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Arkansas Department of Health have identified specific groups that are vulnerable populations—those over 65 years of age and those with pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma/lung conditions, obesity, and clotting factor issues. If you fall into one of these categories and wish to request a reasonable accommodation, please contact Human Resources.
- Enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols have been implemented across campus. Please see the sanitation part of this plan for additional information.
- In accordance with state guidelines, the university has installed signage on all exterior doors and installed other communications to encourage all visitors and members of our community to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by practicing good hygiene, social distancing and face coverings.

Daily Health Screening
All employees are to complete a self-assessment, the Henderson Employee/Student Daily Health Screening, prior to arriving at work each day. If an individual responds "yes" to any question, the employee should not come to work. The individual should contact the individual’s Primary Care Physician. By coming to campus, an employee is acknowledging that he/she does not have signs/symptoms of COVID-19.
If you think you may have COVID-19 symptoms, have been in contact with someone who was known to have coronavirus, or have traveled to an area with a known outbreak, call your health provider in advance. Please do not show up at a clinic, urgent care or other health facility without calling first. Your provider will need to take special measures to protect other people in the clinic.
If any symptoms develop, you must:
- Stay home. (Do not report to work if you are sick; if you become ill while at work, go home immediately.) Faculty and staff can use accrued leave for this purpose or may be entitled to Emergency Paid Sick Leave under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
- Immediately inform the Human Resources Department and complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form.
What if I test positive for COVID-19?
- Any employee who tests positive for COVID-19 should immediately contact the Human Resources Department and complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form.
- Human Resources is required to contact the Arkansas Department of Health for all positive cases. Employees who test positive or receive a clinical diagnosis for COVID-19 should leave campus immediately and not return to campus until they receive authorization from the Arkansas Department of Health or treating physician. Employees must provide a copy of the release to Human Resources to return to work.
Events and Meetings
- Continue to limit large group meetings. Use tools such as Zoom and Google Hangouts as an alternative.
- For meetings that occur in person, participants are required to wear face coverings and to follow six-feet spacing rules.
- Plans for public events must be approved by the university and follow the Arkansas Department of Health's directives.
General Safety Practices
- Face coverings must be worn in classrooms, offices, public spaces and areas used by multiple people. Face coverings should fit snugly, completely cover the nose and mouth, and consist of at least two layers of cloth.
- Wash your hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol concentration if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Stay home if you are sick.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid sharing common office supplies such as pens and notebooks.
- Develop sanitizing procedures for work areas with commonly used or shared equipment, tools, computers, copiers, etc.
- Maintain six feet of physical distance.
- Avoid gathering in groups in common areas of buildings.
- Following State of Arkansas building guidelines, no more than two people should occupy an elevator. Follow indicated markings on the elevator floor and wear face coverings as required for indoor spaces. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after pressing common buttons like elevator call buttons or floor selection buttons. When possible, use stairs.
- Official domestic travel will only be authorized if it fulfills the university's critical research, operational, or strategic mission. Individuals may seek permission for official domestic travel by discussing travel plans with their direct supervisors, who will forward their recommendations to the Vice President of Finance and Administration via email. Upon consultation with either the provost or other relevant members of the campus leadership team, the VPFA will make recommendations to the chancellor, who retains sole authority to approve travel under this temporary policy.
- When traveling by rental or Henderson vehicle, no more than two employees should ride together.
- All study abroad trips sponsored by the university are cancelled in 2021.
- No official international travel will be authorized, except by direct appeal to the chancellor for travel that fulfills Henderson's critical research, operational, or strategic mission. No official travel will be authorized to CDC level two or three travel warning countries. Official travel to countries from which the U.S. currently bans entry will not be authorized.
- Employees or students who are authorized to travel but who have concerns about doing so shall not be compelled by anyone to travel.
- If you travel, maintain social distancing and practice good hand hygiene. If you do not have access to soap and water, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol concentration.
