Registrar and Advising

Commencement May 6, Spring 2022

The Spring 2022 Commencement Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 6th in the Garrison Center Ballroom.

Arrival Times: Each graduating student will be assigned an arrival time for check-in (See Below). Due to limited space, and the expectation of a large graduating class, assigned arrival times will be spread throughout the day. The first group of graduates will walk beginning at approximately 9:00 a.m.  Graduates from Teachers College and School of Business can expect their arrival times to be in the morning (before noon). Graduates from the Ellis College of Arts & Sciences will walk in the afternoon (beginning at approximately 1:30 p.m.).

Event Format: The event format will consist of graduates lining-up with their families prior to entering the Garrison Ballroom. Each graduate will have his/her name read aloud, and then proceed with guests across the stage to receive a diploma cover. This event format is being carried forward from prior ceremonies due to the positive feedback from previous graduates and their families. This format also permits HSU to welcome up to nine guests per graduating student, thus preventing the requirement of event ticketing.

Check-In & Entrance to Garrison Center: The Garrison Center may be entered either through the Bookstore or via the entrance next to Starbucks. Tables will be set-up in the food court for graduates to check-in and receive a name card. The name card will be handed to the announcer during the ceremony.

Graduation Photos: For this year's event a professional photographer will not be present on site. As always, graduates and their families are encouraged to take pictures throughout the event.

Caps & Gowns: If your graduation application has been submitted to the Registrar's Office, and you have received a signed copy sent to your @reddies.hsu.edu email, then please visit the HSU Reddie Bookstore to order your cap and gown. Honors stoles are offered through the bookstore for the following.

  • Cum Laude (3.50 - 3.749 cumulative GPA) = Ivory Stole
  • Magna Cum Laude (3.75 - 3.849 cumulative GPA) = Gray Stole
  • Summa Cum Laude (3.85 - 4.00 cumulative GPA) = Red Stole
  • First Generation College Graduate = Peach Stole

*All other stoles and cords offered by various student organizations are to be obtained directly from those organizations.
