Whether you're a college-bound high school student or already attending a college or university, Army ROTC Army Reserve Officer Training Corps enables students to enroll in elective leadership and military courses at colleges and universities in addition to their required courses. Army ROTC has scholarships available. Scholarships are awarded based on a student's merit and grades, not financial need.
National Army ROTC Scholarships (4-year and 3-year)
This scholarship type is awarded to high school seniors who will soon graduate or obtain an equivalent certificate. Scholarships cover full tuition and mandatory fees for the term of the award. Competition for these scholarships is high, as over 30,000 students from across the country compete for them annually.
Scholarship awardees receive a book allowance of $1200 per year and receive a monthly tax free stipend. The scholarship process is centralized at Cadet Command. Interviews are conducted at local Army ROTC programs prior to being eligible for selection. The scholarship process is from approximately April 15th of the high school junior year through May 31st of the senior year, but applications must be complete by January 1st of their senior year. Basic Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be between the ages of 17 and 26
- Have a high school GPA of at least 2.50
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Score a minimum of 1000 on the SAT (math/verbal) or 19 on the ACT (excluding the required writing test scores)
- Meet physical standards
- Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (Army Reserve or Army National Guard)
Campus Based Scholarship (2-year, 3-year or 4-year)
Campus based scholarships are offered to students who were not offered or did not apply for the National Army ROTC Scholarship. These scholarships range in length from 2 to 4 years. Scholarships will cover full tuition and fees or room and board each year for the length of the scholarship awarded. Scholarship awardees also receive a book allowance of $1200 per year and receive a monthly tax free stipend.
APPLICANTS MUST meet all eligibility criteria to receive scholarship consideration by the selection board. The board meets twice a semester - the 2nd Monday of September, November, February, and April. Contact Mrs. J in the ROTC office to set up a scholarship interview.
Nursing Scholarship
ARMY ROTC offers 2 ,3 and 4 year Nursing scholarships to qualified individuals at a "Partnership in Nursing Education" program. This scholarship guarantees service in the Army Nurse Corps upon graduation and commissioning. Being a nurse in the Army provides you with opportunities not found in the civilian world. As an Army Nurse and Officer, you will have the respect of your peers and coworkers, as well as opportunities to train and serve in a variety of specialties. The autonomy to practice nursing as part of the Army Health Care Team is unlike most civilian health care facilities. Your professional judgment will be the driving force behind ensuring that all aspects of a patient’s care are addressed, and you’ll be responsible for initiating coordination of a patient’s multidisciplinary care. Green to Gold Scholarship
The Green to Gold Scholarship is for active duty Soldiers who have are toward the end of their initial enlistment. These scholarships are available for a duration of 2, 3 or 4 years. The deadline for applying for the Green to Gold is April 1st for the upcoming academic year. Active Duty Service Members may also apply for the Green to Gold Non-Scholarship Option or through the new Green to Gold Active Duty Option.Green to Gold is a program designed to allow qualified and inspired young enlisted soldiers to return to college, receive their baccalaureate degree, and earn a commission as an Army officer.
Enlisted members who meet the prerequisites can either apply for a 2, 3, or 4 year scholarship or can participate in the Green to Gold program without applying for or earning a scholarship. Soldiers who participate in this program are discharged from active duty and enlisted in the Army Reserve as part of their ROTC program.
If otherwise eligible for Montgomery G.I. Bill Benefits, cadets who entered the ROTC through the Green to Gold program, whether under a scholarship or not, may use their Montgomery GI Bill benefits and are paid a monthly tax-free stipend. Military Service Obligation
If you are selected for a National ROTC Scholarship, you are required to sign a contract with the Department of the Army. If you are under 18 years of age when you enroll, your parents or guardian must also sign this contract. This contract contains a requirement to repay the United States Government for all financial aid received if after you begin your sophomore year you fail to comply with the terms of the contract. This repayment may be either monetary or in the form of enlisted service. The choice rests with the Army and not the scholarship cadet.
- ATTEND the 5 week Leadership Development Assessment Course between your junior and senior years of college.
- ACCEPT a commission to serve on either active duty or reserve duty upon completion of the required academic and Army ROTC courses.
- SERVE in the Army for a period of 8 years. This may be fulfilled by:
Serving on Active duty for 4 years followed by 4 years in the Army Reserve, Army National Guard, or the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR) or by serving 8 years in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard, including 4-6 months active duty for initial training. Term of obligation begins at time of commissioning.
