Emmie Eriksson

Please share a little bit about yourself and your major.

My name is Emmie Eriksson, and I am a senior from Malmo, Sweden, majoring in business management. I play for the Henderson’s women's golf team, and this is my second year at Henderson. I studied economics in high school in Sweden and wanted to pursue my golf career in the states to try to go professional after graduation. That is why I chose business management as my major when I started college at Murray State University. I then transferred to Henderson and decided to continue within the business school.

Are you a first-generation college student? If so, how does it feel to be the first in your family to attend college?

I am the first one in my family to attend college, and that is a great privilege to have that opportunity.

What inspired you to major in business?

I have always been interested in business and how the business world works. I am a businesswoman, and I always try to make the best for myself. I have always wanted to start my own business someday.

Why did you choose Henderson to pursue your degree?

I chose Henderson because it has a great business school with engaged professors and staff that will do everything to help you succeed. Henderson has many internship opportunities and certificates that you can obtain to develop and prepare for the future.

What has been your favorite class so far?

My favorite class has been Fundamentals of Marketing because I learned a lot about different marketing strategies, and Ms. Hasley, the professor, was very engaged and helpful.

Are there any professors who have had a significant impact on your college experience?

There are several. Dr. Jackson, Ms. Hasley, Ms. Bell, and Dr. Akoto, all have been very helpful and willing to help me be the best businesswoman and person that I can be.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or extracurricular activities on campus?

I am playing for the women's golf team, and I am also involved in the business school’s Student Advisory Council. The Student Advisory Council has enhanced my college experience by giving me the opportunity to meet other business students and help develop the business program for incoming students.

What advice would you give to incoming students to make the most of their experience at Henderson?

Get to know the professors and ask for help with classes and your career. Take advantage of the networking opportunities and career fairs that they provide.

Is there anything you wish you had known when you first started college?

I wish I had known that the schedules are more flexible and adaptable than expected. Also, the professors are more willing to help and work with you than you think.

What are your career aspirations or plans after graduation?

I would like to be a manager for an advertising department at a multinational company.

Please share something about yourself that would surprise most people, including your friends.

Something that surprises a lot of people is that I can speak five languages.

If you could have lunch with any historical figure, who would it be?

It would be Elon Musk. This is because I admire his hard work and his great efforts in developing his business and his brand.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest inspiration is my mother. She is a hard-working woman who has the ability to face adversity like no one I have ever met. She always knows what to prioritize, and she always gives me great advice on anything I need help with.
