Henderson to host digital media production summer camp

Henderson State University will provide aspiring young filmmakers an opportunity this summer to enhance their skills and interests through workshops and other activities.

The university’s Digital Media Production program will host a four-day camp June 25-28 where participants ages 14-18 will engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences.

“The program is an overnight experience with the goal of immersing students in many aspects of digital media production,” said Lacy Klinger, director of arts and humanities at Henderson and camp director. “During the evenings, students will participate in team-building activities and masterclasses with camp faculty and staff.”

Campers will produce their own newscast, sportscast or commercial. They will also gain experience presenting in front of the camera and working behind the scenes, operating a variety of digital cameras such as drones, GoPros and phone cameras.

Using Adobe software, participants will produce their own soundtracks and edit their projects. Once completed, the teams will showcase their work to the campus.

“The students not only take away skills and knowledge that will enhance their digital storytelling techniques for different types of broadcasts, but also a product they can put on their demo reel,” Klinger said.

The registration deadline is May 3. More information, including registration forms, is available at hsu.edu/filmcamp.
