Saxophonist Lou Marini to perform at Henderson Nov. 6

Lou Marini, an accomplished professional musician best known for playing saxophone with the Saturday Night Live and Blues Brothers bands, will perform Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in Henderson State University’s Arkansas Hall.

Marini will be accompanied by the Arkansas All-Star Big Band which includes several Henderson alumni and current and former faculty. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at hsu.edu/marini.

As one of the most sought after session players on saxophone, flute and clarinet, Marini has played with the Woody Herman Orchestra, Doc Severinson, Blood, Sweat and Tears, The Band, Levon Helm & the RCO All-Stars, Dr. John, Frank Zappa, Maureen McGovern, Lew Soloff Quintet, BlueBeck with Joe Beck, Eric Clapton, Red House, and the Magic City Jazz Orchestra.

He has toured four times each with James Taylorʼs Band of Legends and the John Tropea Band.

Marini has also recorded albums with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Aerosmith, Maureen McGovern, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Luther Vandross, Lou Reed, Brecker Brothers, Dr. John, Donald Fagan, Eddie Palmieri, Jimmy Buffet, Frank Zappa, John Tropea, and Steely Dan.

As a member of the Saturday Night Live house band, Marini was an original member of The Blues Brothers Band that made its first appearance on SNL, and has appeared in both movies and on all recordings and tours.
