Henderson accredited by national art/design association

Art accreditation

Henderson State University has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

NASAD is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges, and universities that establishes national standards for art and design degrees, and other credentials for art and design-related disciplines. It includes approximately 363 accredited institutions.

“Accreditation by NASAD signifies that Henderson has met the expectations of the only accrediting body for art and design programs and that we are dedicated to seeking optimum learning conditions for art and design students,” said Dr. Angela Boswell, dean of Henderson’s Matt Locke Ellis College of Arts and Sciences. “As a member institution, we will be participating in setting the national expectations for excellence in higher education in art. Students will know that they are receiving the highest order of instruction, and faculty will be strengthened to do their best work.”

Boswell said the accreditation follows two years of self-study and application to NASAD.

“Our art program offers a wide variety of options of study including graphic design, ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography,” Boswell said. “Our talented faculty are working artists themselves, and use their knowledge in the field to help nurture our students' talents and creativity.

“The program also introduces students to the community of artists they are joining through planned events with nationally-recognized artists and educators. Above all, the faculty care deeply about their students and their success as individuals and as artists.”

Accreditation is a formal peer-review process that assures the quality of the education students receive. An accredited program is a quality program. Accreditation is not a ranking system. It is an assurance that a program within an institution meets established quality standards.
