Eight Semester Guarantee

Pursuant to Act 1014 of 2005, qualified first-time freshman may elect to participate in a guaranteed eight-semester completion program for most bachelor degrees. The list of degree majors that are included in the eight-semester degree completion program may be obtained from the Advising Center. First-time freshman must accept or waive participation in the guaranteed eight-semester completion program. When choosing to participate in the program a student accepts reponsibility for monitoring his/her progress toward degree completion and for making choices that will lead to graduation in four years. A first-tine freshman is not eligible for this program if any of the following conditions are applicable:

  1. The student has not declared a major.
  2. The student is required to complete one or more remedial courses.
  3. The student’s area of study is not included among the eligible majors/degrees.

The eight-semester degree completion plan will be voided for the following reasons:

  1. The student’s cumulative grade point average drops below 2.00.
  2. The student fails to complete a minimum of 31 hours each academic year.
  3. The student does not accept any available course section that can be accomodated in his/her class schedule.
  4. The student changes his/her major or minor.
  5. The student falls below full time enrollment at any time during any semester.
  6. The student fails to follow exactly the eight-semester degree plan.
  7. The student earns an unsatisfactory grade in any course that requires a grade of “C” or better.
  8. The student fails to meet departmental or school/college requirements pertaining to grades or standardized test scores.
  9. The student drops or withdrawals from any course in the eight semester degree plan.
