This course provides graduate students the knowledge necessary to mentor, coach, and instruct students and nurses. This course will introduce graduate nursing students to the theoretical aspects of teaching/learning. This course will also integrate depth of understanding of the nursing discipline, nursing practice, and enhanced pedagogical skills, including preparation in curriculum design and development, teaching methodologies, educational needs assessment, and learner-centered theories and methods.

NURS 51603: Nursing Education Theory Practicum

This course provides an introduction to the theory of advanced nursing education. This practicum is a faculty-guided nursing education experiential immersion for applying and synthesizing the nurse educator role in academia or staff development in health care institutions. The graduate students will assess, design, implement, and evaluate a classroom or clinical instructional module under the direction of a selected nurse faculty educator. This course will provide an in-depth understanding of the nursing discipline, nursing practice, and the added pedagogical skills.

This course builds on nursing education theory to provide the graduate student with the technological knowledge necessary to mentor, coach, and instruct students and nurses using online and classroom technologies. This course will introduce graduate nursing students to the technical aspects of teaching/learning. This course will also integrate a depth of understanding of the nursing discipline, nursing practice, and enhanced pedagogical skills, including preparation in curriculum design and development, teaching methodologies, educational needs assessment, and learner-centered theories and methods.

This course builds on the nursing education technology course to provide the graduate student with the technological knowledge necessary to mentor, coach, and instruct students and nurses using online and classroom technologies. This course provides an experiential immersion that is faculty-guided for applying and synthesizing the nurse educator role in academia or staff development in health care institutions. The graduate students will assess, design, implement, and evaluate a classroom or clinical instructional module under the direction of a selected nurse faculty mentor. This course will provide an in-depth 88 understanding of the nursing discipline, nursing practice, and the added pedagogical skills.

This course provides the opportunity to examine the latest strategies for improving nursing leadership and management skills. This course offers coverage and practical management strategies for a wide range of workplace issues such as delegation, diversity, evidence-based practice, stress management, quality improvement, legal issues, and recruitment and retention. This course promotes an understanding of a detailed analysis of today’s nursing environment including problems of management in health care settings from a micro level (departmental/unit) and a macro level (organizational).

NURS 51503: Advanced Nursing Leadership and Roles
Credit Hours: 3
This course introduces leadership skills necessary for the ethical and critical decision making abilities of advanced nursing practice. The roles of advocate, leader, researcher, and policymaker are explored in relation to organization and systems based care. These skills will define graduate nursing by initiating and maintaining interdisciplinary relationships and communication, collaboration and civility within healthcare teams for coordination of care, delegation, negotiation and conflict resolution.

This course will introduce the graduate student to the complexities of healthcare reimbursement and regulation. This course will require the graduate student to determine if the outcomes of standards of practice, performance, and competence have been met and maintained. This course will introduce graduates to reducing barriers, facilitate access to care, and improve health outcomes within micro and macro-systems of healthcare. This is a component of the graduate nursing core courses.
