Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway

FAQ

GENERAL INFORMATION

Q: What is the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway?

A: The Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway prepares students for admission to medical school through a combination of classroom preparation and mentorship opportunities—no Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores required.

Students accepted into the program complete a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences (pre-med track) at Henderson State University—and provided they meet the academic and program requirements—then transition to medical school at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University (NYITCOM at A-State) to study for the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.

Q: When does the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway begin?

A: The Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway begins with freshmen enrolled at Henderson for Fall 2024. New application cycles will open in subsequent fall semesters to coincide with the arrival of new freshman classes.

Q: Who is eligible for the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway?

A: Participants must be Arkansas residents, have a combined SAT score of at least 1100 or an ACT composite score of at least 26, have a GPA in the top 10 percent of their high school class, and have a successful interview with the admissions committee for the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway during the spring semester of their freshman year at Henderson.

Up to ten students will be admitted to the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway annually.

Q: Do I have to take the MCAT?

A: Participants who successfully complete all academic and program requirements of the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway are not required to submit an MCAT score for admission to NYITCOM at A-State. The Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway is specifically designed to prepare students for success in medical school and residency, which negates the need for a MCAT score.

Q: If I am not already admitted to Henderson, is it too late to enroll for Fall 2024?

A: You can still apply! We are glad to help you with the university admissions application and get you registered for freshman orientation. Please contact Henderson’s admissions team at admissions.hsu.edu/register/Henderson-NYITCOM-PreMed-Pathway.

Q: What if I am a high school student and interested in the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway for Fall 2025 or later?

A: We are glad to follow up with information about the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway. Please contact Henderson’s admissions team at admissions.hsu.edu/register/Henderson-NYITCOM-PreMed-Pathway.

Q: Are current Henderson students eligible for the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway?

A: Students enrolled at Henderson prior to Fall 2024 are not eligible for the Henderson-NYITCOM Pre-Med Pathway but, because of our new partnership with NYIT, will receive consideration for admission to NYITCOM at A-State. For information, please contact Dr. Shannon Clardy, dean of the College of Aviation, Science, and Nursing, at clardys@hsu.edu.
