Great North American Eclipse

Countdown To Totality ⎸ April 8, 2024 ⎸ 1:49 p.m.

The Great North American Eclipse will be visible on April 8, 2024 across portions of Arkansas, including Arkadelphia. Those at Henderson State can view the start of the eclipse at 12:31 p.m. and, at 1:49 p.m., witness complete darkness for 2 minutes and 1 second.

Henderson State invites the public to enjoy the eclipse on its campus (Carpenter-Haygood Stadium) from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and will offer free eclipse glasses on a first come, first served basis. The first 1,500 people to arrive will receive free commemorative t-shirts. Several telescopes and sun spotters, set up with solar filters, will also be provided for public use. There will be telescopes that have cell phone mounts for participants to take photos through their phones.

Several food options will be available, including food trucks Walk Baby Love, Vidal's Tacos, and The Boil Seafood Bar. Chick-fil-A and concessions, provided by Sodexo, will also be present. Henderson State will provide entertainment throughout the eclipse event with its NuFusion Jazz Ensemble, rides, and games.

The university will be participating in the NASA Dynamic Eclipse Broadcast and a telescope will be set up to collect images for heliospheric data. These images will also be live-streamed on YouTube as they are captured.
