Student Affairs and Student Success

Trio Programs

Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) provide academic support for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds — low-income individuals, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities — to help them apply to college, complete their degrees and pursue graduate studies.

Disability Resource Center

The Disability Resource Center promotes access, retention and academic success for students with disabilities, working to create an accessible university community where students with disabilities can fully participate in all aspects of the educational environment.

Educational Opportunity Center

The Educational Opportunity Center provides information on colleges and universities, helping students apply and offering transportation to area campuses for tours.

McNair Scholars Program

The McNair Scholars Program prepares low-income, first-generation and minority undergraduates for graduate study at the doctoral level.

Student Support Services

Student Support Services (SSS) helps first-generation, low-income college students with one-on-one tutoring, career exploration, computer labs and office equipment, financial aid information, workshops and access to cultural events.

Talent Search

Talent Search helps sixth-12th grade students complete admission and financial aid applications, prepare for entrance exams and find information on colleges and universities.

Veterans Upward Bound

Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a college preparation program that provides assistance to veterans who are first-generation, low income or at a high risk for academic failure. The program provides services such as advising, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction in the core subject areas.

Upward Bound

Upward Bound provides opportunities for participants in 9th-12th grades to succeed in their pre-college performance and in their higher education pursuits. The HSU Upward Bound project services Garland County students from Lakeside, Jessieville, Fountain Lake, and Lake Hamilton school districts.
