Author shares 'flipped class' concept with educators

Jonathan Bergmann, who is considered one of the pioneers in the Flipped Class Movement, spoke to a group of educators earlier this month at Henderson State University. Bergmann believes educators should ask one guiding question: "What is best for my students in my classroom?" He has been a high school science teacher for 24 years.

The flipped classroom is a pedagogical approach in which direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space, according to The resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creativity in the subject matter.

Bergmann is the co-author of Flip Your Classroom: Reach Every Student in Every Class Every Day, and Flipped Learning -- Gateway to Student Engagement. He received the Presidential Award for Excellence for Math and Science Teaching in 2002 and hosts The Flip Side, a radio show which tells the stories of "flipped educators."

The event was hosted by Henderson State and Dawson Education Cooperative.
