Business faculty, staff reach 100 percent in giving

The School of Business at Henderson State University is the first academic unit on campus to reach 100 percent participation in the newly launched Heart of Henderson campus campaign.

Approximately 11 percent of Henderson State faculty and 8 percent of staff members contribute to the university’s foundation. Their contributions provide assistance with various needs including specific programs or departments, student scholarships, the staff emergency fund or the Henderson Fund, which channels resources to the areas with greatest need.

“When faculty and staff invest in their university through giving in a campus campaign, development staff can go to potential donors with an advantage,” said Jennifer Boyett, vice president for advancement. “We can show alumni and friends that the people who know most about our university are positive about its direction and are giving not only their time and talent during the workday, but their donations as well. That’s an incredible advantage for us when we apply for grants or talk to prospective donors.”

Alumni and friends often ask what percentage of faculty and staff are donors themselves, Boyett added. “It’s exciting to see the School of Business fully invested in the idea of giving back.”

Dr. Marc Miller, School of Business dean, said business faculty and staff have long known how important it is to assist in the university’s campus campaign and he is proud of the group’s being first to achieve 100 percent participation.

“Our alumni and friends support the mission of Henderson State’s School of Business, but we needed to set the bar and show our commitment to the initiatives and academic programs in the school moving forward,” Miller said.
