Alumni Profile: Jacob Woodall

As a student at Lake Hamilton High School, Jacob Woodall had always been interested in mathematics. His calculus and statistics teacher, Henderson alumnus Brian Leonard, sparked Woodall’s “love” for statistics during his senior year.

When Leonard told Woodall that Henderson State would be starting a mathematics/statistics track, Woodall knew that was the path he wanted to take.

Woodall completed his degree in mathematics with a statistics track in 2016. Two months later, he was hired by Spectra Technologies LLC in East Camden as an associate quality engineer.

Woodall was recently promoted to program quality engineer for 40mm ammunition systems.

“I oversee quality operations in the company, perform various experiments, and review and track statistical information related to the many processes performed in my program,” he said.

Woodall said he uses statistics daily to track the company’s progress on various tedious and crucial operations.

“Without the knowledge I received from Henderson, making informed decisions based off of the numbers and calculations I review would be impossible,” he said. “I love everything about statistics and I am always looking for new things about it that I do not know. My job allows me to use it heavily and I love that.”

Woodall credits Henderson’s mathematics faculty with preparing him for a successful start to his career.

“Henderson’s math faculty are superb. They go above and beyond what I ever would have imagined to make sure you understand what they taught you in lecture or lab,” he said. “They genuinely care about your success and education, and make every effort to show you that.

“I owe all my success to my professors. I want them all to know I am very grateful for the hours, days and weeks that they put into providing me with a quality education.”

Woodall said he plans to soon pursue his master’s degree online.

“I honestly cannot see myself studying anything other than math,” he said. “It has been a passion of mine since I was very young.”
