HSU Theatre to present Shakespeare's 'As You Like It'

Henderson State University Theatre will present four performances of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It in collaboration with The Actors Theatre of Little Rock. Performances are April 6, 7, and 8 at 7:30 p.m., and April 9 at 2:30 p.m. in the Arkansas Hall Studio Theatre.

As You Like It follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle’s court, accompanied by her cousin Celia, to find safety and, eventually, love in the Forest of Arden. In the forest, they encounter a variety of memorable characters, notably the melancholy traveler Jaques, who speaks many of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches (such as “All the world’s a stage” and “too much of a good thing”).

The cast of As You Like It includes B. Dumas, Carson Horton, Georgeann Burbank, Zandora Chinwah, Sophie Burke, Camden Dalie Keech, Eric Harrison, Hillary Bell, Bryce Nunn, Chelsie Spain, Taylor Fulgham, Natalie Gray, Tyranni Hubbard, and Jenny Moses.

The play is under the direction of guest director Mark A. Burbank of the Actors Theatre of Little Rock. Scenic design is by Hillary Bell, lighting design by B. Dumas, and costumes/makeup design by Anthony McBride.

Emily Swenskie is intimacy and fight choreographer. Eli Butler of Ouachita Baptist University is stage manager, and Kenzie Burks, also of OBU, is the assistant stage manager. Student designers include Zandora Chinwah, assistant costume designer.
