Stan Parris publishes his first book

Stan Parris holding Just Outside of Hope by Stan Parris

The Rev. Stan Parris (‘71) has released his first book, entitled Outside of Hope. The book is a compilation of stories from his time traveling all over the world as a missionary, his years playing football, including playing for Coach Clyde Berry, and many other stories.

Parris, who was recently celebrated as a Golden Reddie for his 50th anniversary as a graduate, played on Henderson’s 1969 AIC Championship Team and was named All-American. He went on to sign on with the Buffalo Bills, and was later inducted into the Reddie Hall of Honor.

Shortly after college, Parris was called to the ministry and has now been retired for five years.

In the first three weeks since its release, Outside of Hope has already sold over 500 copies. Parris collaborated with his longtime friend, Dennis Byrd (‘70), who served as the editor. Byrd was editor of the Oracle as a student, and later served as what is now the sports information director.

The two started their own publishing company, “Pard,” to launch the book. Outside of Hope can be ordered online at pardpublishing.com, or by contacting Parris at reddie2write@gmail.com.
