HSU Theatre to present 'She Kills Monsters' Nov. 12-14

Henderson State University Theatre will present three performances of Qui Nguyen’s She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms on Nov. 12, 13, and 14. Each live performance can be viewed online via Zoom video-conferencing software starting at 7:30 p.m.

Nguyen has reimagined his wildly popular 2011 drama-comedy so that it takes place in a video call. The play tells the story of Agnes Evans as she struggles to come to grips with the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. This high-octane dramatic comedy, laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within everyone.

The cast of She Kills Monsters includes: Baleigh Almond of Hot Springs; Sophie Burke of DeQueen; Suzy Hill of Little Rock; Adrian Hinojosa of Hot Springs; Camden Dalie Keech of Conway; Kailee Osborne of Van Buren; Savannah Price of Bryant; Ethan Schmidt of St. Louis, Missouri; Addison Smith of Texarkana, Texas; Jessica Smith of Cabot; Chelsie Spain of Natchitoches, Louisiana; Lucy Speer of Little Rock; and Garrett Talley of Nashville.

The play is under the direction of Claudia Beach, assisted by Hannah Mims of Fouke. Student designers include: Eric Cox of Texarkana, Texas, scenery and lighting; Trey Smith of Texarkana, Texas, sound; and Taylor Embree of Bryant, costumes. The stage manager is Kirsten Shnaekel of Benton, assisted by Chase Dunn of Alma.

The play is recommended for mature audiences. Admission to the virtual performance is free of charge, but viewers must request an invitation at bit.ly/shekillsmonsterszoom to receive a link to access the performance.
