Barranco appointed interim choral director

Dr. Jonathan Barranco

Dr. Jonathan Barranco has been appointed interim director of choral activities at Henderson State University for the 2020-21 school year.

A native Arkansan with 15 years of experience teaching in secondary and post secondary settings, Barranco comes to Henderson from Texas Tech University where he completed his D.M.A. in choral conducting. He served as conductor of the Matador Singers, the University Singers, and co-conductor of University Choir, Texas Tech’s premiere choral ensemble.

Along with his work as a conductor, Barranco taught course work in choral methods and choral conducting. He served as chorus master and assistant conductor for the Texas Tech Opera Studio.

Barranco’s recent research has led to lectures and presentations in the areas of choral literature, holistic student approaches, and musical poetics.

As an emerging composer, Barranco has written works for ensembles in Arkansas and Texas.
