CLASS SUMMARY

 

The Cashier is responsible for performing a variety of fiscal and student related duties with an assigned department or program.  This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

 

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS

 

Receipt payments received to student accounts.  Receipts deposits received from various departments on campus. Print and mail accounts payable checks.  Hands out loan, refund, and work study checks to the students at the cashier window. Balances/reconciles cash received with amounts recorded daily and prepare deposits to be sent to the bank.  Prepare money boxes for various organizations and for ball games.  Receipting and balancing GRC collection agency payments. Prepare journal entries for return checks.  Receipt scholarship checks.  Responsible for providing list of offices supplies that need to be ordered.  Answers telephone and greets visitors providing assistance and information.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

 

Knowledge of basic accounting principles.  Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping procedures.  Knowledge of computers and software application programs.  Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.  Knowledge of customer services techniques.  Ability to record student information and manipulate data to generate reports and documents.  Ability to interpret department policies and procedures.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of bookkeeping, billing or related experience.
