Director of Housing/Residence Life

POSITION:  Director of Housing and Residence Life to begin December 1, 2016.

DESCRIPTION:  The Residence Life Director works directly under the VP for Student and External Affairs to provide leadership, vision and strategic direction for the department. The mission of the Department of Residence Life is to provide a safe living environment that challenges and supports the academic, social, and personal development of each residential community member through accountability and purposeful educational programming. The Department of Residence Life is committed to facilitating experiences and providing services to HSU students for the enhancement and enrichment of their own development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing leadership and direction for the Department of Residence Life; supervising professional, support and student staff; creating and managing the departmental budgets; Ensuring the safety and well-being of resident students by taking an active role in crisis and risk management; establishing long and short term goals for the department that complement the goals of the university; evaluating and assessing university housing occupancy, retention and projection trends; negotiating financial agreements with outside vendors for services directly related to housing; and creating and overseeing long-term repair and replacement plans for campus housing.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Adult Development, Counseling, or a related field. A minimum of five (5) years of related experience in higher education and/or residence hall supervision. Must possess excellent written and verbal skills and be proficient with the latest technology.

EXPERIENCE:  Experience such as supervision, and fiscal and budgetary management; demonstrated problem-solving, conflict resolution and crisis management skills; and experience with implementation, assessment and evaluation of resident student services and programs desired.

SALARY:  Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include university supplemented health insurance and TIAA–CREF.
