If you love the theatre and dream of a career as an actor, director, designer, technician, stage manager, dancer or teacher then a major in Theatre Arts at Henderson State University is for you.
From your first day on campus our program will provide abundant opportunities for you to gain the experience you need to claim your place in the American theater scene. HSU’s Theatre and Dance training is comprehensive, intense and student-driven. Our students:
- Jump right in to perform and work in your freshman year.
- Find numerous creative opportunities in five to six productions each year.
- Train for a career in acting, directing, design, technology, management or dance.
- Prepare for graduate study or teaching.
At Henderson State, you will find challenging classes offering emphases in acting, dance, directing, design, technical theater, management or theater education. The balance of rigorous classroom work and hands-on production training will give you the experience and skills you need to take that next step toward your dream.
You will receive individualized, one-on-one instruction from our diverse, highly trained, and professionally active faculty whose passion is focused on the undergraduate student. Guest artists also visit frequently providing intensive workshops on a variety of topics - dance lighting techniques, acting in Shakespeare, mask making, stage combat, African dance, the Alexander Technique.
Your theater and dance training at Henderson State University will prepare you for whatever stage comes next. You will find graduates of our program acting in New York and Los Angeles; working as lighting technicians, stage managers, designers, directors and production managers in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Minneapolis and New York; studying in some of the most respected graduate programs in the nation; and teaching in universities and high schools.
